I am a 33 year old Physician Assistant, I am Mormon, I have Anxiety & in an effort to combat that I have found that traveling is very healing. Not just traveling though, but connecting to the people within our world, and sharing their stories, what makes them get up every morning, their hopes, dreams, fears, and their cultural history.
I truly feel we are the sum of everyone that we meet in our lives, we take a little bit of good from everyone we meet. I have met a lot of people around the world, and love connecting with them & learning what makes them truly unique.
The people I meet while traveling, when they could feel I was genuinely interested in what they had to say, they opened up whole new world’s for me (as Aladdin would say). It opened my mind to what was considered ‘normal’ in my hometown wasn’t always the case; the word ‘normal’ is so relative to our backgrounds and how we grew up. So learning about the way people go about their typical day to day lives, what they consider normal or routine; may just be the most unique and amazing thing we have to witness. From the food they eat, to how they are educated, to the local hangout’s and vacation spots…..its all so fascinating!
When we truly try to ‘seek first to understand’, we may be able to see ourselves reflected in those people we may have once feared or thought to be strange.
My problems, and issues became so much smaller when I intentionally made an effort to connect with people and the world around me. Some travel to take selfies, show their perfect bodies I would kill for, but for me……..the comparing myself to others stops now. I will seek the unique, I will live my life without fear, I will laugh & not be afraid of crying, I will be genuine, I will be a humanitarian, I will be that change I wish to see in the world…….and I hope to help you do the same.
So let us travel together, connect with those in this world in more meaningful ways together, explore the different cultural backgrounds together, be unique & seek out the unique TOGETHER……..in doing so, I truly believe we can change the world around us in doing so.
In the end, I hope my grave will read:
She lived without fear,
She explored without boundaries
She was the change she wished to see in the world.
